Jeep CJ-6

1956 to 1975 · All Jeep CJ-6 generations

The CJ-6 was a CJ-5 with 20 more inches of wheelbase, advertised as a half-ton that could carry seven people or 1,500 lb. It shared the CJ-5's engines and changes, from the Hurricane four and Perkins diesel to the Dauntless V6 and, from 1972, AMC sixes and the 304 V8 on a longer 103.5-inch wheelbase. Few were sold in the US; most went abroad, especially to Sweden and South America. The longer CJ-7 replaced it in the US for 1976, but export builds continued until 1981.

Notes

Code and slug: one generation, so the slug is 'first' and the code is the model name. Years: Wikipedia and cj3b.info's history page give 1956 as the first model year (built from 1955); cj3b.info's poster titles it 1955 to 1975. last_year is the end of US sales; jeepfan's list shows export-only production of 2,431 (1976), 2,754 (1977), 742 (1978), 992 (1979), 1,633 (1980), and 360 (1981). Yearly figures come from an enthusiast spreadsheet linked from jeepfan.com that says its accuracy is unverified and may be calendar-year based; its total matches the 50,172 cited by cj3b.info and Wikipedia. Later wheelbase is 103.5 in per Wikipedia; a forum gives 104 in. CJ-6A Tuxedo Park output is given as 490 or 459 for 1964 to 1967 in search summaries; neither was confirmed on a page read. No source read lists the CJ-6's own transmissions, transfer cases, or axles; Wikipedia says only that it shared the CJ-5's engine families, so the drivetrain is described generally (for the CJ-5's units by year, see that model). Length and weight were not found.
