The name first appeared for 1984, when the top SJ Wagoneer became the Grand Wagoneer, and stayed in production until 1991. It returned for 2022 on Jeep's largest and most luxurious SUV, which absorbed the regular Wagoneer for 2026 and gained a lower starting price and a range-extended electric version.

Jeep Grand Wagoneer (WS)

The WS Grand Wagoneer launched for 2022 as the flagship of the revived Wagoneer family, sharing the Wagoneer's body-on-frame structure but adding standard air suspension, a 471 hp 6.4 L V8, up to 75 inches of screens, and McIntosh audio with up to 23 speakers. The high-output Hurricane twin-turbo six arrived for 2023 at 510 hp, became the only engine for 2024, and rose to 540 hp for 2025, with a long-wheelbase L offered from 2023. A major 2026 refresh dropped the chrome, absorbed the Wagoneer, put the Jeep badge back on, cut the starting price to about $62,000, and switched to the 420 hp standard-output engine, with a 647 hp range-extended electric version to follow.

Jeep Grand Wagoneer (SJ)

When the compact XJ took over the Cherokee and Wagoneer names for 1984, AMC kept building the full-size SJ Wagoneer Limited and renamed it Grand Wagoneer. It kept the 1963 body, a carburetted 360 V8, a TorqueFlite automatic, and Selec-Trac four-wheel drive, dressed up with woodgrain sides and a long list of standard luxury features. AMC gave it a new grille and dash for 1986, and Chrysler, which bought AMC in 1987, added items such as an overhead console and keyless entry but left the basics alone. Sales fell steadily after 1986, and the last one was built in June 1991.
